The Ernst-Thälmann-Park
Complex planning for a prestigious project
Inaugurated in 1986, Ernst Thälmann Park is a highlight of socialist urban development in the last years of the GDR. Listed as a historic monument since 2014, it is attracting increased interest again today. Through banners and original planning graphics, the exhibition shows the complex history of the park’s development. In particular, it illuminates the deliberate combination of the Thälmann monument, housing construction, park landscape, and social buildings such as the planetarium, to create a detailed overall picture of the area.
The exhibition is a joint project of the Stiftung Neue Kultur, the Leibniz Institute for Spatial Social Research, the Stiftung Planetarium Berlin and the Kulturforum Berlin Nordost e.V. and is sponsored by the Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Berlin.
