The Berliner Nachtung presents: Feeling Dusk, Narrating the City

With Prof. Dr. Derek Pardue

Live

Dusk is both routinized as a regular feature of our planetary existence and ephemeral as a highly variable play on our senses. This talk is part of a book project, which consists of dusk stories that are organized around the feelings of anxiety, desire, lust, curiosity, and loneliness. Prof. Dr. Derek Pardue will draw on co-created experiences he made in Aarhus, Denmark that shape the ethnographic writing and urban material analysis.

Prof. Dr. Derek Pardue, University of Aarhus, Denmark

Derek Pardue is an anthropologist and Associate Professor in Global Studies at Aarhus University in Denmark. His work has focused on migration, cities, and cultural politics across the world and he has  conducted fieldwork in São Paulo, Brazil, Lisbon, Portugal, Praia, Cape Verde and Aarhus. His most recent books include »Sobrevivendo no Inferno«, a collection of ethnographic short stories based on his experience in Brazil and »Sonic Signatures«, about the ways in which migrant communities do both identity work and constitute the city through music-making and other sonic practices.
