Mavka – Guardian of the forest

In the midst of a magical forest, under cover of the trees, lives the mysterious creature Mavka. She is the young soul of the forest - soft, gentle and kind. The forest dwellers are astonished when the Supreme Spirits of the Forest choose the diminutive Mavka as their new guardian to protect the natural kingdom and the heart of the forest from humans. The forest dwellers still have no idea how close their young guardian is to humans. The likeable village lad Lukas has bewitched Mavka's heart with his wonderful music. Although they come from different worlds, the two fall in love. But this love is threatened by the traditions and prejudices of their community. Mavka is faced with an impossible decision. She must choose between her love for Lukas and her duty as guardian of the forest.

Masterfully illustrated and with a fascinating richness of colour, »Mavka - Guardian of the Forest« plunges into the magical world of Slavic myths and legends. Inspired by the classic Ukrainian play »Forest Song« by LesjaUkrajinka, film makers Oleg Malamuzh and Oleksandra Ruban have created a breathtaking and touching cinematic adventure for the whole family.
